The sweetness of moonlight, soft but illuminative… The Moon Salutation flow carries within it strong physical openings, and heartful expression, balanced with an open breath, an expansive mind, and quiet poise. Like when hot and cold air come together, there is a co-mingling, steam or rain, then a new balance is achieved. We explore the deep yet soft energy of side movements, cooling breath, slower movements, abiding in the Witness for equanimity. Now, we will delve into flexibility and its origins in the non-preferential mind. One of the intentions of Yoga sadhana (practice) is to move towards equanimity (sattva guna) and openness. We can use our body (asana), our breath (pranayama), our mind (through meditation and stillness), and the heart (yama and niyama) as the vehicles to carry us into harmony.
In this weekend, we explore and learn to teach stretching techniques for the body; longer holding of intermediate postures; and methods to unify the body/mind/spirit. How do we stay buoyant as we explore the dynamics of staying open to life? Meditation and pranayama practices bring us into a place of inner sensitivity; discussion and practice to make it all conscious. We will work/play together to learn hands-on assisting in yoga postures
This weekend session will include aspects of:
- Yogic philosophy, including Gunas, Witness Consciousness, Patanjali, the 3 stages of Hatha practice. What do we cultivate and practice to ground us more fully to a life of integrity, energy and bliss?
- 8-10 intermediate-level yoga asana. We will work in partners as well as group practice experiences.
- Assists, benefits and contraindications, how to enter and release safely will be covered in detail.
- Core strengthening; safety and alignment techniques for more fully embodying the asana; how to move from tension into holding with engagement and ease.
A short practice teaching experience (for those who are currently teachers, looking for 500 hour certification with Yoga Alliance), to integrate the weekend’s course materials.
Discussions, time to practice and explore, new friendships and connections.
There will be handouts to enhance your learning. Included are posture sheets and handouts on all of the techniques, and space for you to take notes on what you are learning and is lighting you up!
