Chair Yoga Foundations: An introduction to a selection of yoga poses and sequences that lend themselves to the use of a chair as a prop and support in the teaching of yoga. Learn and explore the history of chair yoga and how it can be incorporated into various settings and with various groups such as work/office, the older client, clients with balance and/or mobility issues, and clients with cognitive challenges. Also an exploration of how a chair can be used to facilitate the deepening of practice for experienced yoga practitioners. Explore these questions: What is functional movement and why is it important? How can Chair Yoga maintain and facilitate the improvement of functional movement? How can Chair yoga be used to improve cognitive health? How can Chair yoga be used to facilitate social interaction and function? Included in this module: Safety using the chair as a prop • Class set up • Sequencing • Monitoring for client condition and safety • Seated poses • Standing poses • Poses to develop strength • Poses to develop flexibility • Poses to develop mobility • Poses to develop balance and focus • Sequences to challenge cognition abilities • Sequences to encourage socialization and engagement. The practice will include a consideration of benefits, precautions, and modifications for each pose introduced. Instructors: Siri and Brett.
